It is not about how good we sound
but how good we are in our hearts and livesIt is not about how much we are "in tune" with our instruments
but how "in tune" we are with the life and Spirit of GodIt is not about playing well together
but living in harmony with each other relationallyIt is not about impressing one another or our church family on Sunday
but impressing and pleasing God with our daily lives. It is not about cleverness, virtuosity, or creativity on our instruments or voices
but the stretching of new heights, continuously, of our Christian experienceIt is not about pleasing every musical judge and critic at our church
but pleasing the Judge of the universe and bringing joy to his heartIt is not about being better than the Church down the street
but being better than we were last weekIt is not about love for music
but love for God and each otherIt is not just about listening to each other's instruments
but listening to each other's hearts and passionsIt is not about finding and keeping the right tempo
but finding and keeping our pace and tempo with JesusIt is not about keeping our instruments in good repair
but keeping our lives in the best of care.It is not about ME being fulfilled musically - the feeding of my personal preferences
but making sure our church folk hear the message of Jesus in the music weeklyIt is not about having the best technology (Powerpoint, keyboards, etc.)
but being content with what God has granted us and doing the best we can with what we haveIt's not about playing "okay" or better or worse than someone else
It is about doing my very best--as "unto the Lord" (Col 3:23) © Jon Mutchler 2005
